My Glasses

Created by Nigel 8 years ago

I had the great pleasure of working with Michael back in the early 80`s.
There are many a story to tell about him but this one will always stick
in my mind. So after 8 years or more the company we worked for moved
to Alton in Hampshire from Addlestone in Surrey . Michael and I decided
we would travel there rather than take the redundancy. The company gave us
a car to use for commuting which was great , we took it in turns to drive
as it was about an hour each way. We used to get the usual people who
would cut you up , be to slow want to race you get the picture.
Well one morning as we headed into Alton down the dual carriage way,
we were cut up quite bad from some mad driver to which Michael and I
gave chase to give them a piece of our mind . As we speed up and drew along
side on the outside lane Michael thought it a good idea to lean out off
the window and have a good rant only thing was Michael had glasses on
but on returning through the window they had disappeared . I think his
words were something like my glasses my glasses by now I’m crying so much
with laughter and trying to keep the car in a straight line . As we approached the
roundabout we turned around and had to come back , we drove along the
stretch of road he`d lost them with hazards going and Michael walking along
side the car trying to find them , after sometime he found them all twisted
up with one of the lenses which had popped out , I was still laughing at this point.
On arrival at work it became common knowledge what had happened
and everyone was laughing we made Michael a pair of glasses out of welding
wire which went down well with him. Hope this has brought a smile to you
all I’m laughing as I’m telling this tale , but what a joy to have worked with
such lovely man I will never forget him RIP Michael.
